Salmon River Falls

Matt and I decided on a whim to take the Bean up to Salmon River Falls. He loved being out in the snow and was very fascinated with all of the ice formations.

The pictures don't really do the falls justice. They are so beautiful and breath-taking in person. To hear the water flowing from underneath and to take in the whole ambiance is a wonderful experience. Matthew seemed to be in awe of the whole area.

It was quite a hike to get up and down to the river though!

And, it was a steep hike, although having crampons on really made a difference.
Matthew sat (well, he had no choice about sitting, he was confined in his carrier :) and watched as Matt showed me some very basic moves for ice climbing.

It really is harder than you would think to get the ice axe to stick, especially well enough to hold your whole body weight!

Stompies in the snow! He was so glad to finally be out of his carrier and able to play.

Of course he didn't like it too much when he fell face first in the snow!

We all had a good day at the Falls, but we were all worn out by the end and ready to get in the warm car and drive home.

I love the word "ambiance". It must have been a special place to visit.

Way to get out there guys! It looks beautiful, though cold. Matthew's a little trooper.

Wow! It looks beautiful! Christy-you are so brave to try ice climbing! I think I'm too wimpy for that!

Well...I didn't actually do any real ice climbing, I just practiced putting the tools in the ice, I was never more than a few feet from the ground. But, I would like to try it for real sometime!
